- 3. Turn on currency mode if you need "Rupees … Only" for a cheque or invoice.
- 4. Pick a letter case and copy the result.
Indian vs International Numbering
The two systems diverge above one thousand. The international system groups digits in threes — thousand, million, billion. The Indian system groups in twos after the first thousand, giving lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000). That is also why the digit separators differ: 2,500,000 internationally is written 25,00,000 in India.
So the same figure reads as Twenty Five Lakh or Two Million Five Hundred Thousand depending on the convention your document follows.
Currency mode adds the conventions banks expect on a cheque: the minor unit is spelled out separately and the phrase closes with "Only" so no one can append extra words. Singular and plural forms are handled too — one rupee, not one rupees.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Indian and International systems?
The Indian system groups digits as thousand, lakh (100,000) and crore (10,000,000). The international system uses thousand, million and billion. So 2,500,000 is "Twenty Five Lakh" in one and "Two Million Five Hundred Thousand" in the other.
Why do cheques need the amount in words?
Words cannot be altered as easily as digits — adding a zero to a numeral is trivial, rewriting a sentence is not. Most banks treat the written amount as authoritative if the two disagree.
How are decimals handled?
In plain mode the decimal is read out digit by digit ("Point Seven Five"). In currency mode it is converted to the minor unit instead, so 45200.75 becomes "…Rupees and Seventy Five Paise Only".
Is there a limit on the number size?
Values are accurate up to 9,007,199,254,740,991 — beyond that JavaScript cannot represent whole numbers exactly, so the tool tells you rather than printing words that no longer match the digits.
Does this work offline?
Yes. The conversion is pure arithmetic running in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
