Why might the word count differ from Microsoft Word?
PDF files store text differently from Word documents. Hyphenated words, ligatures, headers, footers, and embedded text in images may be counted differently. For scanned PDFs without selectable text, the count will be 0.
Does this tool work with scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs are images and do not contain selectable text, so the word count will show 0. You would need OCR (optical character recognition) software to extract text from scanned documents first.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit enforced by the tool. Very large PDFs are processed in your browser, so performance depends on your device's available memory.
Can I count words in only part of the PDF?
Yes. Toggle the "Count specific page range only" option after uploading your PDF, then enter the start and end page numbers you want to analyze.
What does "Characters (no spaces)" mean?
It is the total character count with all whitespace removed. This is useful for character limits that exclude spaces, such as in publishing or translation work.
