Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add my own logo?
Yes — upload it in the "From" tab and it appears in the invoice header.
How do I get a PDF?
Click "Download PDF" — it opens the print dialog with your invoice ready to save as a PDF or print directly.
Is my invoice data saved anywhere?
Only in your own browser (localStorage), so you can come back and continue later. It is never sent to a server.
Can I apply both a discount and tax?
Yes. The discount is applied to the subtotal first, then tax is calculated on the discounted amount — the standard order used on most invoices.

How to build a clear invoice with line items, discount and tax
This generator turns a handful of fields into a print-ready invoice. You add your business details and logo, your client's details, one or more line items with quantity and rate, and then set the invoice number, dates, currency, a single tax percentage, and an optional discount. A live preview on the page shows exactly what will print, with subtotal, discount, tax and total calculated for you.
It is a simple tool by design. Tax is one percentage applied to the whole invoice, so it will not produce a CGST and SGST split, and there are no dedicated fields for GSTIN, HSN or SAC codes. If you need those on an Indian GST invoice, type them into the address or notes boxes, and check the format requirements with your accountant. Note also that the currency starts on US dollars, so switch it to INR in Settings before you begin if you bill in rupees.
Step by step
- Open the From tab and enter your business name, address and email, with an optional logo image.
- Open the To tab and add the client's name, address and email under Bill To.
- In Items, fill in a Description, Qty and Rate for each line. Use the add button for more lines; the amount per line and the subtotal update automatically.
- In Settings, set the invoice number (it starts as INV-001), choose a currency, set the invoice date and due date (the due date defaults to 14 days after today), and enter Tax % and Discount %.
- Edit the Notes box, which begins with "Thank you for your business." Add payment details, GSTIN or terms here.
- Check the preview, then click Download PDF to open your browser's print dialog and choose Save as PDF. Use Save Draft to keep the details for next time.
When this is useful
- A freelancer billing a client for a design, writing or development project.
- A small shop or workshop that needs a quick invoice without accounting software.
- A consultant issuing a proforma-style bill for approval before work begins.
- A student or first-time self-employed person learning how a proper invoice is laid out.
- Reissuing a repeat invoice each month by loading the saved draft and changing the number and dates.
Worked example: A rupee invoice for a web project
A developer sets the currency to INR and adds three lines: UI design, 1 at 30,000; Development, 40 at 1,500; Content setup, 5 at 2,000. The subtotal is 1,00,000.00. She enters a 10% discount, which takes off 10,000.00 and leaves 90,000.00. With Tax % set to 18, tax is 16,200.00 and the total is 1,06,200.00. The preview shows each line with its amount, the Discount (10%) row, the Tax (18%) row and the final Total, with the invoice number and both dates in the corner.
Tips for better results
- Give each invoice a unique, sequential number and keep a list of what you have issued.
- Put bank or UPI details and payment terms in Notes so the client can pay without asking.
- Use the discount field for an overall percentage and show any special price directly in the rate for a single item.
- Choose the due date to match the terms you agreed rather than relying on the default.
- Describe line items specifically, such as "Logo design, 3 concepts", rather than "Services".
Common mistakes
- Leaving the currency on USD for a rupee invoice. Change it in Settings before you share the PDF.
- Expecting separate tax rates per line. Tax is one percentage applied after discount, so split invoices if items have different rates.
- Entering Tax % that is not applicable to you. If you are not registered for GST, leave it at zero.
- Forgetting that discount is taken before tax. The order is subtotal, minus discount, then tax on the reduced amount.
- Not saving a record. The tool keeps only a draft in your browser, so store each finished PDF yourself.
Your files and privacy
The invoice is built entirely in your browser. When you click Save Draft or Download PDF, the form details (including the logo image) are stored in this browser's local storage so you can come back; Clear removes them. Invoice contents are not uploaded. The page records an anonymous usage event (tool name and a random session identifier) when opened.
Frequently asked questions
In what order are discount and tax applied?
The subtotal is the sum of quantity times rate for every line. The discount percentage comes off the subtotal first, and tax is then calculated on the discounted amount. The total is the discounted amount plus tax.
Can I use it for a GST invoice?
You can use it to lay out the figures with an overall GST percentage, and you can add your GSTIN and HSN or SAC codes in the address or notes. It does not split tax into CGST, SGST or IGST, so confirm with your accountant whether that is acceptable for your case.
How do I get a PDF?
Click Download PDF. The tool opens a print view with only the invoice, and you select Save as PDF as the printer in your browser's dialog, or print it directly.
Does it keep my previous invoices?
It keeps one draft, the most recent one you saved, in your browser. Starting a new invoice means editing or clearing that draft, so download and file each PDF when it is final.
Can I remove all line items?
At least one line must remain. You can leave it blank or set the quantity to zero if you need to.
Is there a limit on items or on amount?
The form does not cap the number of line items, but a very long invoice may not fit neatly on one printed page, so check the preview before saving. Amounts are shown to two decimal places.
