About This Tool

PDF documents rarely arrive in the perfect order — a scanned contract might be missing a page in the middle, a merged report could have chapters out of sequence, or you might need to move a cover page after reviewing the final draft. UseToolify's Rearrange PDF Pages tool gives you a fast, visual way to fix page order without any software installation or server uploads.

The interface renders every page as a live thumbnail directly in your browser using PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering engine. Once the thumbnails appear you can drag them to any position using the intuitive drag-and-drop grid, or use the left and right arrow buttons beneath each thumbnail for precise one-step moves. A page number indicator always shows the current position in the output sequence so there is no guesswork about the final order.

If you need to remove a page entirely — for example to strip out a blank page, a duplicate, or confidential content before sharing — click the × button in the top corner of any thumbnail. The page disappears from the sequence instantly. The page count in the action bar updates in real time so you always know exactly how many pages will be in your finished document.

When you are happy with the arrangement, click Make PDF. The tool uses pdf-lib to construct a brand-new PDF document by copying the pages in your chosen order from the original file. All text, images, metadata, and embedded fonts are preserved faithfully — only the page sequence changes. The download starts immediately; no waiting for a server response. If you also need to rotate pages after rearranging, use our companion Rotate PDF tool for that final step.

How to Use

  1. 1. Upload your PDF to see every page as a thumbnail.
  2. 2. Drag the pages into the order you want.
  3. 3. Download the reordered PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my PDF get uploaded to any server?

No. The entire rearrangement happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.

Can I delete pages while rearranging?

Yes — each thumbnail has a delete button (×) so you can remove unwanted pages before generating the final PDF.

Is there a page limit?

There is no hard limit. Large PDFs with many pages may take a few seconds to render thumbnails, but they will process successfully.

What browsers are supported?

Any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. No plugins or extensions required.

Will the resulting PDF be smaller or larger?

The file size will be similar to the original. Rearranging pages does not compress or alter the content of individual pages.

How to reorder and remove pages in a PDF

Documents end up in the wrong order all the time: a scanner takes page 3 after page 4, a merged file has swapped chapters, or a cover sheet needs to come first. This tool draws each page as a thumbnail, lets you drag them into the sequence you want and writes a new PDF in that order.

You can also delete pages on the same screen, useful for blank backs or duplicates. The tool only moves and drops whole pages; it does not edit what is written on them and cannot duplicate a page.

Step by step

  1. Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click to browse. The name, size and page count appear and thumbnails fill in as they are drawn.
  2. Drag a thumbnail to a new position. The numbers under the thumbnails update.
  3. For one-step moves, use the left and right arrows beside the page number. The left arrow is disabled on the first page and the right one on the last.
  4. To remove a page, click the cross on its thumbnail. It leaves the list at once; your original file is untouched.
  5. Check the footer count (N pages in output), then press Make PDF. The file downloads with -rearranged added to its name. Change File starts again.

When this is useful

  • Putting out-of-sequence scanned pages of an application back in order.
  • Moving a declaration page or cover sheet to the front of a report.
  • Stripping blank reverse sides from double-sided scans.
  • Reordering an exported presentation so the summary comes before the details.

Worked example: Fixing a 7-page scanned rent agreement

The scanner swapped pages 2 and 3, and page 6 is a blank reverse side. Click the right arrow on the thumbnail in position 2 so it swaps with position 3, then remove the blank page with its cross. The footer now reads 6 pages in output. Press Make PDF and agreement.pdf downloads as agreement-rearranged.pdf with six pages in the right sequence.

Tips for better results

  • Use arrows for small fixes and dragging for long moves, such as taking the last page to the front.
  • Remove unwanted pages first, so you have fewer thumbnails to handle.
  • Printed page numbers on the pages do not change; a page numbered 7 can now appear third.
  • Scroll through the downloaded file to confirm the order, especially for formal documents.

Common mistakes

  • Deleting the wrong thumbnail. Numbers shown are current positions, not original ones, so check the image before clicking the cross. If you slip, press Change File and reload.
  • Expecting a smaller file. Pages are copied unchanged, so the size stays close to the original.
  • Assuming bookmarks, internal links or form fields survive. The output is a new document built from copied pages, so such features may not carry over; check the result.
  • Using a password-protected PDF. It may not load and show a message that the file may be encrypted or corrupted. Remove the protection first if you are entitled to.

Your files and privacy

The PDF is read and rebuilt in your browser with the PDF.js and pdf-lib libraries, and the file is not uploaded. Opening the page sends a small usage ping with the tool name and an anonymous session ID, but nothing from your document.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete pages here as well?

Yes. Each thumbnail has a cross that removes it from the output. Your source file is not changed, and nothing is final until you press Make PDF.

Is there a page limit?

The tool sets none. Larger files take longer to draw thumbnails and rely on your device memory, so a very long PDF may be slow on a basic phone.

Can I copy a page so it appears twice?

No. Each original page can appear once at most. Repeating a page would need another tool, such as merging two copies of the file.

Will page quality change?

No. Pages are copied rather than re-rendered, so text stays sharp. The thumbnails are only small previews.

What if I reorder wrongly?

There is no undo button, but you can move the page back with the arrows, or press Change File and load the PDF again.
