About PDF Password Protection

Password-protecting a PDF prevents unauthorized users from opening and reading the file. This is ideal for sensitive documents such as contracts, financial reports, medical records, or confidential business proposals.

Our tool uses 128-bit AES encryption via qpdf, the industry-standard command-line PDF encryption tool. The user password must be entered every time someone opens the document. The optional owner password restricts editing, copying, and printing.

Remember to keep your password safe — we do not store it, and there is no recovery option if you lose it. Your PDF is processed securely and discarded after download.

You may also find our Unlock PDF, Add Watermark to PDF, and Password Generator helpful.
