Text Diff Checker Online
Paste two texts and instantly see what changed — added lines highlighted green, removed lines red.
How It Works
- 1Paste the original version of your text in the left panel and the modified version in the right panel.
- 2The diff result updates live as you type, comparing both texts line by line.
- 3Green lines are additions, red lines are removals. Lines that match are shown as unchanged context.
About Text Diff
Text diffing is the process of finding and displaying the differences between two versions of a document. It is a foundational concept in version control systems like Git, where changes to source code are displayed as "diffs" showing which lines were added, removed, or unchanged. Our Text Diff Checker brings the same power to plain text, documents, configurations, JSON data, and any other content you need to compare.
Whether you are proofreading a revised document, verifying that a deploy didn't introduce unexpected changes, or comparing two versions of a CSV export, line-level diffing gives you a fast, accurate view of what changed. The Swap button lets you flip the original and modified panels if you pasted them in the wrong order, and Clear resets both fields at once. Everything runs in your browser — no text is ever transmitted to a server, keeping your content completely private and secure.
You may also find our Find & Replace Text, Remove Duplicate Lines, and JSON Diff helpful.
How to Use
- 1. Paste the original text into the left panel.
- 2. Paste the changed version into the right panel.
- 3. Differences are highlighted line by line — added, removed, and modified.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the diff checker work?
The tool compares your two texts line by line. Lines that exist only in the first text are marked as removed (red), lines only in the second are marked as added (green), and matching lines are shown as unchanged.
Can I compare code files?
Yes. Paste any text — code, documents, CSV data, JSON. The diff viewer will highlight exactly what changed between the two versions.
Is this a word-level or line-level diff?
Currently the tool performs line-level comparison, which is the most common and readable format for most use cases.
Are my texts sent to a server?
No. Comparison happens entirely in your browser. Your text is never transmitted or stored anywhere.
What does the "Swap" button do?
Swap exchanges the text in both panels, flipping which version is treated as the original and which as the modified version.
