About Currency Converter
This tool converts between 30 major world currencies using reference exchange rates published by the European Central Bank (ECB), fetched live via the free, open Frankfurter API. Rates are updated on weekdays, typically around 16:00 CET.
Unlike real-time forex trading rates, ECB reference rates are a daily snapshot used widely for reporting and estimation. They won't exactly match what your bank or a money transfer service quotes, since those add their own margin and fees on top.
Common use cases include estimating the cost of international purchases, comparing prices across currencies while travelling, and quick back-of-envelope conversions for budgeting or invoicing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How current are these exchange rates?
Rates come from the European Central Bank via the free Frankfurter API, refreshed on weekdays around 16:00 CET. They are reference rates, not real-time trading rates — for time-sensitive trades, check with your bank or broker directly.
Which currencies are supported?
30 major world currencies are supported, sourced from the ECB reference rate list. Cryptocurrencies and some regional/pegged currencies are not covered.
Why did the result change when I switched the "From" currency?
Exchange rates are fetched relative to whichever currency is selected as the base ("From"). Switching it refreshes the whole rate table against the new base.
Is this safe to use for actual money transfers?
Use this tool for quick estimates only. Banks and money transfer services add their own margin and fees on top of the reference rate, so the amount you actually receive will differ.

Guide
How to convert currencies and understand the exchange rate shown
The Currency Converter turns an Amount in one currency into another using a table of daily reference rates. Choose a From currency and a To currency from two lists of 30 currencies, type the Amount, and the result appears with a line such as 'rates as of' followed by the date of the rate table. Below the result, a Quick Reference list shows what 1 unit of the From currency is worth in EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, AUD and CAD, leaving out whichever one you chose as From.
It is built for estimates: budgeting a trip, checking what a foreign invoice is roughly worth, or sizing an overseas fee. These are reference rates, not the rates a bank, card network or money-transfer service will give you, so the amount you actually pay or receive will differ.
Step by step
- Type the Amount in the first box. It starts at 1.
- Choose the From currency. Each option shows its code and name, for example INR — Indian Rupee.
- Choose the To currency in the third box. The page opens as USD to INR.
- Wait for the 'Loading exchange rates…' message to disappear, then read the Result and the 'rates as of' date beside it.
- Use the swap button between the lists to reverse the direction, and Copy to copy the converted number to 4 decimal places without a currency symbol.
When this is useful
- Estimating the rupee cost of a software subscription or a purchase billed in dollars.
- Converting a salary offer or a freelance fee from another country into a familiar currency.
- Budgeting a holiday abroad by checking approximate prices in euros, pounds or Singapore dollars.
- Comparing a quoted bank or remittance rate against a neutral reference rate.
Worked example: A US invoice of 1,250 dollars (illustrative rate)
The rates change daily, so this example uses a made-up rate to show the arithmetic; read the live figure from the tool. Suppose the page shows 1 USD = 85 INR. Typing 1250 with From USD and To INR gives 106,250 INR. If a payment provider's rate is 1.5% worse than the reference, the amount you receive would be about 104,656.25 INR, a gap of 1,593.75 rupees, before any fixed fee.
Tips for better results
- Note the 'rates as of' date. Rates update once per working day, so weekend queries show the previous working day.
- When comparing with a remittance service, compare the amount the recipient gets after all fees, not only the rate.
- Currencies such as yen and won are displayed without decimals, so a small conversion may look rounded.
- The number copied by the Copy button has no symbol and 4 decimals, which suits pasting into a spreadsheet.
Common mistakes
- Treating the figure as a tradeable price. A reference rate is a daily snapshot and is not updated by the minute. Banks and card networks add a margin and fees on top.
- Looking for currencies that are not on the list. Among the 30 supported are USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY and SGD, but there is no AED, SAR, BDT, PKR, NPR or RUB, so remittances involving those cannot be checked here.
- Leaving the same currency in both lists. If From and To match, the result box stays empty. Pick two different currencies.
- Assuming the rate stays fixed. If you come back later, the date shown can change, and the amount with it. Take a screenshot with the date if you need a record.
Your files and privacy
When the page opens, and each time you change the From currency, your browser requests a rate table directly from the public Frankfurter service at api.frankfurter.dev. That request carries the From currency code, and the service sees your IP address like any website would; your amount is not sent. The conversion itself is done in your browser, and the site records that the tool was opened with an anonymous session ID.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
The page requests the latest rates from the free Frankfurter API, which this page describes as European Central Bank reference rates. Frankfurter's documentation says the latest rates cover the most recent working day and are refreshed around 16:00 CET.
Are these live market rates?
No. They are daily reference rates, so they do not move during the day. Live forex prices, and the rate a bank offers a customer, can differ noticeably.
Why did the number change when I changed the From currency?
The tool fetches a fresh table with the From currency as the base. After you change it, a short loading message appears and the result is recomputed from the new table.
What happens if I am offline or the service is down?
The tool shows an error message saying the rates could not be loaded. It does not keep saved or built-in rates as a fallback, so there is nothing to convert until the request succeeds.
Which currencies are supported?
Thirty: USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, HKD, SGD, NZD, KRW, MXN, BRL, ZAR, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, THB, TRY, CZK, HUF, ILS, MYR, PHP, IDR, RON and ISK. Cryptocurrencies are not included.
