How to Use
- 1. Pick a series tab, or search for a size by name.
- 2. Choose the DPI you are printing or exporting at.
- 3. Switch to landscape if you need the rotated dimensions.
- 4. Copy the measurement you need in mm, cm, inches or pixels.
How Paper Sizes Actually Work
The ISO 216 A series is built on a single idea: every sheet has an aspect ratio of the square root of two, roughly 1.414:1. That is the only ratio that survives being folded in half, which is why an A4 sheet folded across its long edge gives exactly A5, and why scaling a design between sizes never crops or leaves a mismatched margin. A0 is defined as the sheet of that ratio with an area of exactly one square metre, and every other size halves down from there.
Pixels are the part people get wrong. A paper size is a physical measurement, so it has no pixel dimensions until you fix a resolution. A4 is 2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI, 1240 × 1754 at 150, and 794 × 1123 at the 96 DPI browsers assume — all the same sheet of paper. Any pixel figure quoted without a DPI is incomplete.
North America is the notable exception to ISO 216. US Letter is slightly wider and noticeably shorter than A4, and the two are close enough that a document formatted for one prints on the other without an obvious error — it just quietly clips the footer or spills onto an extra page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size is A4 in pixels?
It depends entirely on the resolution. A4 is 210 x 297 mm, which is 2480 x 3508 pixels at 300 DPI for print, 1240 x 1754 at 150 DPI, and 794 x 1123 at the 96 DPI browsers assume. Always state the DPI alongside a pixel size.
Why does halving an A4 sheet give exactly A5?
Because every ISO 216 size has an aspect ratio of the square root of 2, about 1.414:1. That is the only ratio preserved when you fold a sheet in half, which is what makes the A series scale cleanly with no cropping and no wasted margin.
What is the difference between A4 and US Letter?
A4 is 210 x 297 mm; Letter is 216 x 279 mm. Letter is about 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter, so a document laid out for one will not print correctly on the other without scaling — the usual symptom is a clipped footer or an unexpected extra page.
Which DPI should I use?
Use 300 DPI for anything commercially printed, 150 DPI for draft or home printing, and 72 or 96 DPI for screens. Going above 300 rarely improves a print and multiplies the file size.
What are the C sizes for?
Envelopes. A C size is sized to hold the matching A size: an A4 sheet fits flat in a C4 envelope, folded once in a C5, and folded twice in a C6. DL is the long business envelope that takes an A4 sheet folded into three.
