Split PDF Files Online — Free, Private, No Watermarks
UseToolify's PDF splitter lets you divide any PDF into exactly the parts you need — completely free, with zero file uploads. Whether you need to extract a single chapter from a large report, send a specific range of pages from a contract, or divide a scanned document into equal-sized email attachments, this tool handles it all in seconds.
The entire splitting operation runs locally in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your PDF is never sent over the network, which means complete privacy. There are no file-size restrictions imposed by a server, no account required, and no watermarks added to your output files.
Three splitting modes cover virtually every use case. By Page Range gives you surgical precision — type ranges like "1-5, 7, 10-15" and each comma-separated segment becomes its own downloadable PDF. You can also toggle "Merge all ranges" to pull non-contiguous pages into a single combined output. Every N Pages is perfect when you want uniform chunks — enter 10 and a 47-page PDF becomes five parts of 10 pages and one final part of 7. By File Size solves the classic email attachment problem: enter a size limit in megabytes and the tool groups pages greedily, flushing a new part whenever the next page would push it over the threshold.
Results appear as downloadable cards immediately after splitting. Each card shows the label, the page range it represents, and its file size. Click the Download button on any card, or hit Download All to queue all parts for sequential download with a brief stagger to avoid browser blocking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the PDF splitter completely free?
Yes — UseToolify's PDF splitter is 100% free with no limits, no account, and no watermarks on any output file.
Is my file safe? Is it uploaded to a server?
Your file never leaves your device. All splitting happens entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Nothing is transmitted to any server.
What is the maximum file size I can split?
There is no server-imposed file size limit because no upload occurs. The practical limit is determined by your browser's available memory. Modern browsers handle PDFs of several hundred MB without issues.
Can I split a password-protected or encrypted PDF?
The tool will attempt to open encrypted PDFs using pdf-lib's ignoreEncryption flag. If the PDF has a user password (required to open), you will need to unlock it first before splitting.
What is the difference between "By Page Range" and "By File Size"?
"By Page Range" lets you specify exactly which pages go into each part using ranges like 1-5, 7, 10-20. "By File Size" groups pages automatically until the next page would push the part over your chosen limit in MB.
Why does "By File Size" sometimes produce parts larger than the limit?
PDF compression is non-linear. If a single page is individually larger than your size limit, it will form a part by itself which will exceed the limit. This is unavoidable without recompressing the page content.
Can I use this on mobile?
Yes — the tool works in any modern mobile browser. File selection via the native file picker and download triggering both work on iOS Safari and Android Chrome.

Guide
How to split a PDF by page range, page count or file size
Sometimes you only need three pages out of a hundred, or a heavy scan has to be cut into pieces that an email or upload form will accept. This tool takes one PDF and produces smaller PDFs from it, entirely on your own device, using one of three rules: specific page ranges, a fixed number of pages per part, or a maximum size per part.
After you load a file, the tool shows how many pages it has and draws small thumbnails, so you can see which pages land in which part before you press the button. Each result appears in a list with its page range and size, ready to download one by one or all together.
Step by step
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click to choose one. The file bar shows its name, page count and size in MB.
- Pick a mode with the tabs: By Page Range, Every N Pages, or By File Size.
- For By Page Range, type ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 5, 7-9. Each range becomes its own PDF. Tick the box to merge all ranges into one PDF instead.
- For Every N Pages, enter Pages per Part; the tool shows how many parts that gives. For By File Size, enter Maximum Part Size in MB.
- Look at the Split Preview (not available for the size mode) and press Split PDF.
- Download each part with its own button, or use Download All, which starts the downloads half a second apart.
When this is useful
- Pulling the pages of a bank statement that cover one quarter, to attach to a tax or loan form.
- Extracting a single signed page from a long agreement.
- Chopping a 40 MB scanned book into chunks small enough to email.
- Re-ordering pages by typing ranges in the order you want and ticking the merge option.
Worked example: Extracting from a 24-page statement
You load a 24-page file. With the range 1-3, 7, 10-12 and the merge box unticked, you get three parts: Part 1 (Pages 1-3), Part 2 (Page 7) and Part 3 (Pages 10-12). Ticking the merge box gives one file called Merged Output with 7 pages, because 3 + 1 + 3 = 7. Switching to Every N Pages with 5 pages per part gives ceil(24 / 5) = 5 parts: pages 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-24, the last one shorter. Downloaded files are named like statement_part-1.pdf.
Tips for better results
- The range box is pre-filled with the whole document, for example 1-24. Edit it rather than starting from blank.
- To rearrange pages, tick the merge box and type your own order, such as 5, 1-4. The pages are written in the order you typed them.
- Check the preview thumbnails before splitting. A misplaced comma shows up there immediately.
- Use Every N Pages for even batches, such as one file per two-page invoice.
Common mistakes
- Typing a range that is out of bounds. Invalid pieces are dropped without an error, so 1-3, 99 on a 24-page file quietly produces only pages 1-3. Compare the preview to what you intended.
- Expecting By File Size to hit the limit exactly. Pages are grouped until the next one would exceed the size; a single page bigger than the limit becomes its own part and goes over.
- Expecting the parts to add up to the original size. Fonts and images shared across pages are copied into every part that uses them, so the total can be larger.
- Trying an encrypted PDF. The tool may refuse it, or the output may not be usable. Remove the password first if you are entitled to.
Your files and privacy
Splitting runs in your browser with pdf-lib, and page previews are drawn locally with pdf.js. Your PDF is not uploaded. The only thing sent to us is a count that the tool was opened, tied to an anonymous browser ID.
Frequently asked questions
Can I extract just one page?
Yes. Enter a single number in the page range box, such as 7. The result is a one-page PDF named like yourfile_part-1.pdf.
What is the difference between the three modes?
By Page Range lets you choose exact pages. Every N Pages makes equal chunks, with a shorter last part if the pages do not divide evenly. By File Size fills each part until the next page would push it past the limit you set.
Why does the size mode have no preview?
The size of a part is only known once it is built, so the layout appears after you press Split PDF, with the page range and size of each part listed.
Is there a file size limit?
Nothing is uploaded, so there is no upload cap, but your browser must hold the document and every part in memory. Very large files may be slow or fail on a phone.
Why did my browser ask about multiple downloads?
Download All triggers several downloads in quick succession, and some browsers ask you to allow that. If yours blocks them, download the parts one at a time using the button on each.
