About the PDF Signature Tool
Our browser-based PDF signature tool lets you create an electronic signature and embed it into any PDF page using pdf-lib. Unlike digital signatures that require certificates, this tool places a visual signature image directly onto the page — suitable for informal agreements, form submissions, and internal workflows.
Draw mode uses the HTML5 Canvas API to capture your handwritten signature. Type mode renders your name in a cursive-style font to simulate a written signature. Both modes capture a transparent PNG which is then embedded at the position you specify.
Position is specified as a percentage of page width and height, making it resolution-independent and compatible with any PDF page size (A4, Letter, Legal, etc.). You can target any page in a multi-page document.
All processing happens in your browser. Neither your PDF nor your signature is ever sent to a server. This makes the tool safe for contracts, HR documents, and other sensitive materials.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a legally binding digital signature?
No. This tool adds a visual image of a signature to the PDF. Legal e-signatures require certificate-based signing (e.g. DocuSign, Adobe Sign). Use this for informal or internal purposes.
Is my PDF or signature sent to any server?
No. Everything is done client-side using pdf-lib and Canvas API. Your documents never leave your browser.
Can I sign multiple pages?
Currently the tool places the signature on one page per session. Run the tool again on the output to add more signatures.
What does the position percentage mean?
X=0 is the left edge, X=100 is the right edge. Y=0 is the top, Y=100 is the bottom. The signature is placed at that point from the top-left of the page.
Can I change the signature color?
Yes — use the Color picker next to the mode tabs. This changes the drawing pen color for Draw mode and the text color for Type mode.

Guide
How to add a signature image to a PDF
This tool puts a picture of your signature onto one page of a PDF. You draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, or type your name and let the tool render it in an italic serif font. You then download a copy of the document with -signed added to its name.
The result is a visual mark, an image on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature: nothing cryptographic is attached, no identity is verified and a PDF reader will not show a signature panel. Whether a plain image is acceptable depends on who asks for it and why, so check with them. This guide makes no claim about legal validity.
Step by step
- In Step 1 choose the Draw or Type tab. Pick a pen colour with the Color swatch.
- In Draw mode, sign inside the white pad and press Use This Signature (Clear wipes the pad). In Type mode, enter your name and press the same button. A green Signature ready note confirms it.
- In Step 2 drop the PDF onto the dashed area or click to browse. Only PDF files are accepted.
- In Step 3 set Page (it starts on the last page), X Position (%), Y Position (%) and Width (% page). The defaults are 50, 80 and 30. X is the distance of the signature's left edge from the left of the page, and Y is the distance of its top edge from the top.
- Press Embed Signature & Download PDF, which stays disabled until a signature exists.
When this is useful
- Returning a consent or declaration form that an office accepts as a PDF.
- Marking an internal approval note or leave application that needs only a visible sign-off.
- Signing a school or society form when no printer or scanner is at hand.
Worked example: Signing page 4 of an A4 agreement
An A4 page is about 595.28 by 841.89 points. With a drawn signature (a 4:1 shape) you set Page 4, X 60, Y 85 and Width 25. The signature is 25% of 595.28, about 148.8 points wide and 37.2 tall. Its left edge sits about 357.2 points from the left and its top edge about 715.6 points from the top, so about 89 points of page remain below it. The file downloads as agreement-signed.pdf.
Tips for better results
- Draw large. The pad is scaled down to the width you set, so a small scribble becomes a tiny mark on an A4 page.
- The signature image has a transparent background, so it can sit over a signature line without hiding it. Still aim for clear space so the mark stays readable.
- Press Use This Signature again after changing the pen colour; the colour is fixed when you press the button.
- There is no page preview, so estimate positions and re-run with adjusted numbers if the first try is off.
Common mistakes
- Assuming this is a certified digital signature. If a bank, court or portal asks for one, use the method they specify.
- Pressing Use This Signature before drawing anything. The tool asks you to draw in the box first; nothing is added until there is a stroke on the pad.
- Pushing X or Y too high. The image is not clamped to the page, so X 90 with Width 30 runs off the right edge. Keep X plus Width at 100 or below.
- Switching between Draw and Type after pressing Use This Signature. The ready signature is the last one you confirmed, so press the button again after switching modes.
- Typing a very long name with a small Width setting. The typed image grows with the name, so a long name at a narrow width becomes small text; raise the Width percentage.
Your files and privacy
The PDF and your signature are processed in your browser with the pdf-lib library, and the file is not uploaded. Opening the page sends a small usage ping with the tool name and an anonymous session ID, but no document content.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a digital signature?
No. It places an image of a handwritten or typed signature on a page. A certificate-based digital signature uses a cryptographic key and can be checked for tampering, which this tool does not do.
Will the recipient accept it?
That is up to them and the type of document. Some accept a signature image, others require a specific e-sign service or a wet-ink signature. Ask which they need.
Why does the signature look soft?
It is a bitmap, so a large Width value enlarges the pixels. Draw it big and keep the width modest.
Can I move the signature after downloading?
No, it becomes part of the page. Return to your original file and run the tool again with new X, Y and width values.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
Not reliably. If the file is encrypted, loading or signing may fail with an error. Ask the document owner for an unprotected copy.
