About This Tool
Passport size photos are a mandatory requirement for a wide range of official documents — from passport and visa applications to national ID cards, driving licences, government job forms, and university admissions. Each country and authority specifies precise dimensions, background colours, and file size constraints, making it time-consuming to prepare compliant photos without the right tool.
The UseToolify Passport Size Photo Maker supports the most common international standards out of the box. Indian applicants can use the 3.5×4.5cm preset required by the Ministry of External Affairs; US and Canadian applicants use the 2×2 inch format mandated by the State Department; UK applicants use the 35×45mm specification. Custom dimensions are also supported for any other country or institution.
The tool runs entirely in your browser — no photo is ever uploaded to any external server. You can crop the image to correctly frame your head and shoulders, then adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation to meet lighting requirements. The background removal and replacement feature lets you switch backgrounds to plain white, government-blue, or red with a single click, or enter any custom hex colour for specialist requirements.
Wear what your application requires: the tool does not change clothing, so take the original photo the way the form describes. Once your photo looks right, generate a print-ready sheet (30 photos on A4 at 35×45 mm, or 12 on Half-A4). For digital submissions with a small file-size limit, use Download 50KB, which compresses the image to a JPEG of about 50KB or less. Always compare the result with your form's own size, background and file-size instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the passport photo maker support?
The tool supports 3.5×4.5cm (India), 2×2 inch (USA/Canada), 35×45mm (UK), and fully custom dimensions. Just enter width and height in millimetres or inches to match any country's official requirements.
Can I change the background color of my passport photo?
Yes. You can remove the original background and replace it with one of the colour presets or a custom colour. Check which background colour your form asks for.
How do I compress my passport photo to 50KB?
On the Download step, use the Download 50KB button. The tool compresses the image to a JPEG of about 50KB or less. Check the file-size limit on your form, since each portal sets its own.
Can I print multiple passport photos on A4?
Yes. Choose "Print on A4" or "Print on Half-A4" to generate a sheet containing multiple copies of your photo — 30 per A4 sheet at 35×45 mm — ready to hand to any photo lab or home printer.
Is my photo uploaded to any server?
No. Your photo is processed in your browser and is not uploaded. The first time you remove a background, the page downloads a background-removal model from a third-party CDN, but your image itself stays on your device.
Which countries' passport photo dimensions does this tool support?
Presets cover India (3.5×4.5cm), USA and Canada (2×2 inch), and the UK (35×45mm). For other countries such as Australia (35×45mm), Germany (35×45mm), or China (33×48mm), use the custom dimension input.

How to make a passport size photo and a printable sheet
This tool takes an ordinary portrait and walks you through five tabs: choose a size, crop, adjust the lighting, optionally swap the background, and download. You can save one small JPEG for an online form, or a full A4 or half-A4 sheet with as many copies as fit, ready to take to a print shop.
It is a layout and clean-up helper, not an official photo checker. It does not measure head height, eye position or expression, and photo rules differ between passports, visas, exams and ID cards, so treat the tool as a way to prepare the file and always compare the result with the written instructions of whoever will receive it.
Step by step
- Drop a clear, front-facing photo on the upload area or click it (JPG, PNG and WebP work). You move to the 'Size & Crop' tab.
- Pick a size button: India 35x45mm, USA/Canada 2x2 inch (50.8 x 50.8 mm), UK 35x45mm, EU Schengen 35x45mm, China 33x48mm, or Custom, which reveals Width (mm) and Height (mm) boxes from 10 to 200. A crop frame of that shape appears at the largest size that fits your picture; drag it to frame the face.
- On '3. Adjustments' move Brightness, Contrast and Saturation (each from -100 to 100 in steps of 5) until the face is evenly lit.
- On '4. Background' click 'Remove Background (AI)'. Once it shows 'Background Removed', choose White, Light Blue, Light Gray, Red, or use the Custom colour picker.
- On '5. Download' choose 'Download 50KB' for a JPEG of 50 KB or less named passport-photo-50kb.jpg, 'Download A4' or 'Download Half-A4' for a print sheet. The buttons show how many photos fit on each sheet. 'Start Over' resets.
When this is useful
- Preparing the small photograph that exam, recruitment and scholarship forms ask for.
- Printing a sheet of identical photos for school admissions, bank accounts or club memberships.
- Changing a cluttered or unevenly coloured background to a plain one.
- Making a custom-sized photo, such as 33 x 48 mm, when a form gives millimetre dimensions.
Worked example: A 35 x 45 mm photo and its print sheet
The tool works at 300 DPI, so 35 mm becomes 35 / 25.4 x 300 = 413 pixels and 45 mm becomes 531 pixels. An A4 sheet is 2480 x 3508 pixels with a 10 pixel gap between photos, giving floor((2480+10) / (413+10)) = 5 columns and floor((3508+10) / (531+10)) = 6 rows, so 30 photos. A half-A4 sheet is 1240 pixels wide and fits 2 columns by 6 rows, which is 12 photos. Choosing the 2x2 inch preset gives 600 x 600 pixels instead, and the same sums give 4 x 5 = 20 on A4.
Tips for better results
- Take the source photo with the framing you want. The crop frame can only be moved, not resized, so a picture where the face is tiny in the frame will give a tiny face.
- Photograph against a plain wall in even daylight. The background remover and the final image both work better without harsh shadows.
- Do crop and adjustments before touching the background step. The cut-out is made from the cropped, adjusted image at that moment.
- When printing the sheet, choose 100% or 'actual size' in the print dialog. The file is laid out at 300 DPI, and 'fit to page' scaling will change the photo sizes.
Common mistakes
- Assuming 'India 35x45mm' is every Indian document's rule. It is a common form-photo size, but guides describe the Indian passport itself as a 2x2 inch (51 x 51 mm) square, and other forms state pixels and KB instead. Read the instruction page for your application.
- Changing the size, crop or sliders after removing the background. The cut-out is already fixed, and a size change will stretch it to the new shape. Start over from the earlier tab if you need changes.
- Treating 'Light Blue' as an exact standard colour. Offices that need a specific colour usually define it; use the Custom picker with their value.
- Using a 50 KB download when a form wants a different limit. That button is fixed at 50 KB; use a size-reducing tool for other targets.
Your files and privacy
Cropping, colour adjustment, sheet layout and JPEG creation happen in your browser. The background remover loads its AI model and runtime files from a public host (the open-source library's default, staticimgly.com) the first time you use it; those are downloads to your device and your photo is not sent out for that step. Opening the page also records an anonymous usage event.
Frequently asked questions
Will this photo be accepted for my passport or visa?
No tool can promise that. Authorities set their own rules for size, face position, background and file type, and they change. Use this to prepare the picture, then check it against the official specification.
Why does the first background removal take longer?
The model has to be downloaded before it can run. That makes the first use slower on a weak connection; later runs in the same browser are usually quicker.
Can I choose a background other than white?
Yes, after removal you can pick White, Light Blue, Light Gray or Red, or choose any colour with the Custom picker.
What resolution is the final photo?
It is built at 300 DPI, so 35 x 45 mm is 413 x 531 pixels. The JPEG file itself does not carry a DPI tag, so print at actual size to get the physical dimensions.
What if the 50 KB file still looks sharp enough?
At 413 x 531 pixels a 50 KB limit is usually reachable at decent quality. The tool starts at 92% JPEG quality and lowers it in 5-point steps until the file fits, giving up only when quality is already very low.
Can I use it for a baby or child?
The tool treats every photo the same, so it will crop and print one. Many offices have relaxed or different rules for children, which you should read directly.
