Safe & Private AI Image Processing

UseToolify takes your privacy seriously. Every image you upload is processed on our secure servers over an encrypted HTTPS connection and is automatically and permanently deleted after 20 minutes. We never view, analyze, share, or use your images for training data or any other purpose. For immediate peace of mind, click the "Delete My Image" button at any time to instantly revoke access and erase your files.

The AI model powering this tool is Real-ESRGAN, a state-of-the-art super-resolution neural network trained on millions of diverse images. Unlike simple bicubic upscaling that produces blurry, artifact-laden results, Real-ESRGAN intelligently predicts and reconstructs high-frequency details — textures, hair strands, fabric weaves, facial features — producing professional-quality output that rivals paid services.

Whether you're restoring old scanned photos, enlarging product images for e-commerce listings, improving social media graphics, or preparing artwork for large-format printing, UseToolify's AI upscaler delivers consistent, crisp results. It works equally well on portraits, landscapes, text-heavy images, and illustrations. And since there are no watermarks, no logins, and no usage caps, you can upscale every image in your project without friction or cost.

You may also find our Resize Image, Remove Background, and Blur Background helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI image upscaling?

AI image upscaling uses deep learning models (like Real-ESRGAN) to intelligently increase an image's resolution. Unlike traditional upscaling which blurs details, AI analyzes and reconstructs fine textures, edges, and details to produce a sharp, high-resolution result.

How much does it upscale?

Our AI upscaler increases image resolution by 4x — for example, a 500×500 image becomes 2000×2000. This makes images suitable for printing, high-resolution displays, and professional use.

Is my image private?

Your image is sent to our secure server for AI processing and automatically deleted after 20 minutes. We never store, share, or use your images for any other purpose. You can also click "Delete My Image" to remove it immediately.

What image formats are supported?

You can upload JPEG, JPG, PNG, and WebP images. The upscaled result is delivered as a high-quality PNG file.

Is this tool really free?

Yes — completely free with no limits, no watermarks, no signup required, and no hidden charges. Upscale as many images as you need.

How to enlarge a small image 4x with AI upscaling

Ordinary enlargement stretches existing pixels, which is why a small photo blown up on screen turns soft and blocky. AI upscaling takes a different route: a trained super-resolution model, here Real-ESRGAN, predicts plausible fine detail such as edges and texture and builds a larger picture with 4 times the width and height.

It is useful when a picture is a little too small for print or a large display, but it has limits. The model invents detail based on training, so it can make a convincing result, not a recovered original. And, unlike many tools on this site, it does not run in your browser: the image is sent away for processing, which the privacy section explains in full.

Step by step

  1. Click 'Choose Image' or drag a file onto the upload area. JPEG, PNG and WebP are accepted, with a 10 MB maximum; larger or other files show an error message.
  2. Check the file name and size shown with the preview. 'Remove' discards the picture, and 'Change Image' picks a different one.
  3. Click 'Upscale with AI'. The button shows 'Enhancing your image...' while the server works, which can take from several seconds to a couple of minutes.
  4. When it finishes, drag the divider on the 'Compare Before & After' slider to inspect the original against the AI Upscaled version.
  5. Click 'Download Upscaled Image' to save upscaled.png. 'Delete My Image' clears the pictures from the page so you can start again.

When this is useful

  • Enlarging a small scan of an old family photograph before printing.
  • Preparing a low-resolution product or profile picture for a bigger slot on a website.
  • Improving a screenshot or social media graphic before putting it in a presentation.
  • Giving an illustration or logo more pixels to work with in a layout.

Worked example: A 500 x 500 profile picture

A 500 x 500 image has 250,000 pixels. At 4x the output is 2000 x 2000, which is 4,000,000 pixels, 16 times as many. At the standard 300 DPI that is about 6.7 inches square (2000 / 300), instead of about 1.7 inches (500 / 300) for the original. You upload it (well under the 10 MB limit), click 'Upscale with AI', wait for the result, and use the slider to compare. The download is upscaled.png.

Tips for better results

  • Start from the best copy available. Upscaling a heavily compressed or already enlarged picture magnifies its blockiness.
  • Use the slider to check faces, text and fine patterns before you rely on the result; those are where invented detail is most noticeable.
  • Expect a big file. Four times the width and height means 16 times the pixels, and the result is a PNG.
  • Keep your original. The output is a new image created by a model, not a faithful restoration.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a 2x option. There is none: the scale is fixed at 4x, even though some page text mentions a choice. Resize afterwards if you need a smaller multiple.
  • Upscaling very large pictures. A 4000 x 3000 photo would become 16000 x 12000 pixels, which may fail or time out; use a modest-sized source.
  • Uploading sensitive or private images without thinking about where they go. The image leaves your device for processing.
  • Assuming 'Delete My Image' erases the file from a server on demand. It clears what the page is holding in your browser; see the privacy note for what the server does.

Your files and privacy

This tool does not process images in your browser. Your image is uploaded to the site's server, saved temporarily, then sent on to a third-party AI service (Replicate) that runs the Real-ESRGAN model. The server deletes its temporary copy once the job finishes or fails, with a 20-minute timer as a backstop, but the outside service has its own retention rules that the site does not control, so avoid uploading sensitive pictures. The page also sends an anonymous usage event when it opens.

Frequently asked questions

How much larger does the image get?

Exactly 4 times in each direction, so 500 x 500 becomes 2000 x 2000. There is no 2x option.

Which formats can I upload and what do I get back?

You can upload JPEG, PNG or WebP files up to 10 MB. The result always downloads as a PNG named upscaled.png.

Does the image leave my device?

Yes. It is sent to the site's server and from there to an external AI service for processing. That is different from the resize and compression tools, which stay in the browser.

What does 'Delete My Image' do?

It clears the original and upscaled pictures from the page in your browser. The server removes its own temporary file automatically when the job ends, or after 20 minutes at the latest.

Why did it fail or take so long?

Large or complex images can take longer, and the server gives up after about two minutes of waiting for the result. Try a smaller image or try again later.

Will it make a blurry photo sharp?

It adds plausible detail, which can look much cleaner, but it cannot recover information that was never captured. Heavily blurred faces and text may still look wrong.
