About Image Format Converter
JPEG is best for photos where small file size matters more than perfect quality or transparency. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, making it ideal for logos, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges. WebP is a modern format that typically produces smaller files than both, with support for transparency, at the cost of slightly less universal compatibility with very old software.
Conversion happens securely on our server and the file is discarded immediately afterward — nothing is stored.

Frequently Asked Questions
What image formats can I convert between?
You can upload JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, and convert to JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Will converting to JPEG lose transparency?
Yes. JPEG does not support transparency — any transparent areas will be filled with white. Use PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Is there a file size limit?
Images up to 20 MB are supported.
Is my image uploaded anywhere permanently?
Your image is sent securely to our server only to perform the conversion, then discarded immediately after the converted file is returned. Nothing is stored.

How to convert an image between JPEG, PNG and WebP
Different formats exist for different jobs. JPEG is the usual choice for photographs because it keeps files small, PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency, and WebP is a newer format that is often smaller than both. When a website, form or app insists on one of them, you need a quick way to switch.
Unlike most tools on this site, this one does its work on a server. Your image is uploaded to be converted and sent back, which is worth knowing before you choose a sensitive picture. The details are in the privacy note below, along with a few quirks of the conversion that are easy to trip over.
Step by step
- Click the upload area or drop a file onto it. JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF are accepted, up to 20 MB. The file name and its size are shown.
- Under 'Convert To', pick PNG ('Lossless, supports transparency'), JPEG ('Smaller size, no transparency') or WebP ('Modern format, best compression').
- Click the button, which reads 'Convert to PNG', 'Convert to JPEG' or 'Convert to WebP' depending on your choice. It shows 'Converting...' while it works.
- When 'Done' appears, compare the original and converted sizes, then click 'Download'. The file keeps your original name with the new extension, such as logo.webp or photo.jpg.
- To convert another file, click the upload area and choose it; the earlier result is cleared.
When this is useful
- Changing a PNG screenshot to JPEG so it uploads within a size limit.
- Turning a WebP image saved from a website into a JPEG or PNG that older software opens.
- Making a WebP version of a PNG or JPEG for a faster-loading web page.
- Converting a PNG logo to JPEG for a form that refuses PNG files.
Worked example: A transparent logo for a form that wants JPEG
You have logo.png, 600 x 200 pixels, with a transparent background. Converting it to JPEG produces logo.jpg at the same 600 x 200 pixels, but the see-through area becomes solid black, so the dark lettering disappears. Better: place the logo on a white rectangle in any editor, save it, then convert. Or convert to WebP, which keeps transparency. The upload limit to keep in mind is 20 MB, which is 20,971,520 bytes.
Tips for better results
- Convert from the original, not from an already converted copy. Going JPEG to PNG does not restore detail the JPEG discarded; the file just becomes bigger.
- Choose PNG or WebP if your picture has transparent areas you want to keep.
- Compare the sizes shown after conversion. A photo converted to PNG is often several times larger, while PNG to JPEG usually shrinks it.
- If you need an exact KB figure, convert first, then use a size-reducing tool on the result.
Common mistakes
- Converting a transparent PNG to JPEG and expecting a white background. In our check of the underlying conversion library, transparent areas came out black. Put the logo on white first, or keep PNG or WebP.
- Converting a portrait phone photo and not checking its rotation. The conversion does not carry over the orientation flag phones write, so some viewers may show the result sideways. Open the download and rotate it if needed.
- Converting an animated GIF. The page accepts GIFs, but a conversion generally takes only the first frame, so the animation is lost.
- Uploading something confidential without thinking. Because processing is on a server, choose another approach for sensitive documents.
- Sending a file above 20 MB. The conversion will fail with a general 'Conversion failed' message; reduce the file first.
Your files and privacy
This tool is not browser-only. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS to the site's server, where it is converted in memory by an image library and returned to you; the conversion route does not write it to disk or a database. Even so, treat the upload as leaving your device and avoid sensitive images. The page also sends an anonymous usage event when it opens.
Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I convert from and to?
You can upload JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF and convert to JPEG, PNG or WebP. GIF is an input format only.
Is the conversion done on my device?
No. Unlike resizing or compression tools here, this one sends the file to the server, converts it there and sends the result back. The file is processed in memory and returned, but you should still avoid uploading sensitive images.
Can I choose the quality?
There is no quality control on the page. The server uses the image library's default settings for each format, so size and sharpness depend on the format you pick.
What happens to transparency?
PNG and WebP keep it. JPEG cannot, and transparent areas turn out black in our checks, despite what you might expect. Add a solid background first if you need JPEG.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, 20 MB for a single file. Larger files fail, and the page shows a general conversion error.
Will my camera details and location be kept?
Typically no. The converted file is written fresh and does not copy over embedded metadata such as camera model or GPS position. Do not rely on this as a privacy feature, and use a dedicated metadata remover if it matters.
