About Markdown Tables
Markdown tables are simple to read but tedious to write by hand — every row needs the right number of pipes, and adding a column means editing every line. A grid editor removes that bookkeeping.
The second row of a Markdown table is the separator, and it does double duty: it marks the row above as a header and sets each column's alignment through colon placement. A colon on the left means left-aligned, on both sides centred, on the right right-aligned.
Padding cells so the pipes line up changes nothing about how the table renders, but it makes the raw source far easier to scan and produces much cleaner diffs when a table changes in version control. If you would rather keep the source short, switch alignment padding off.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the output have extra spaces?
Padding the cells keeps the pipes vertically aligned, which makes the raw Markdown readable in a diff or a plain text editor. Renderers ignore the whitespace entirely. Turn off "Align columns" for a compact version.
Can I paste data from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Use the Import button and paste CSV or tab-separated data — copying a range straight out of Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers gives tab-separated text, which is detected automatically.
How do I control column alignment?
Click the alignment button above each column to cycle left, centre, and right. That writes the colon markers in the separator row that Markdown uses for alignment.
What if my text contains a pipe character?
Pipes inside cells are escaped automatically, because an unescaped one would end the cell early and break the table.
Where does this Markdown work?
It follows the GitHub Flavored Markdown table syntax, which is supported by GitHub, GitLab, Obsidian, Notion, Discord, and most static site generators.
