About This Tool
Markdown is a lightweight markup language designed to be readable as plain text while converting cleanly to HTML. Created by John Gruber in 2004, it is now used everywhere: README files on GitHub, documentation, blog posts (Ghost, Hugo, Jekyll), comment systems, and note-taking apps like Obsidian and Notion.
This converter supports the core Markdown specification: headings (H1–H6 with #), bold (**text**), italic (*text*), inline code (`code`), code blocks (```), blockquotes (>), unordered lists (- item), links ([text](url)), and images ().
The preview panel renders the HTML directly in the browser so you can see exactly how it will look on a webpage. The HTML panel shows the raw HTML output that you can copy and use in your projects.
All conversion runs in your browser using a pure JavaScript Markdown parser. No network requests, no tracking, no data sent anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Markdown?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber in 2004. It uses simple plain text symbols like # for headings, ** for bold, and * for lists, which convert to clean HTML.
What Markdown features are supported?
This tool supports headings (H1-H6), bold, italic, inline code, code blocks, blockquotes, unordered and ordered lists, links, images, and horizontal rules.
