About QR Code Scanning

A QR code is just a pattern encoding text — a URL, a Wi-Fi network, a contact card, or plain text. The scanner works by capturing a video frame or image, locating the three corner squares that anchor the code, and reading the black-and-white grid between them.

Everything happens locally: the camera feed or uploaded image is analysed on your device using a JavaScript decoding library, so nothing is streamed to a server. This also means it works offline once the page has loaded.

Wi-Fi codes follow a small standard format (WIFI:S:name;P:password;T:WPA;;), which this tool parses into a readable network name and password instead of showing you the raw string.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with my webcam?

Yes — click "Use Camera" and grant permission. The video feed is scanned locally in your browser several times per second until a code is found; nothing is streamed anywhere.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or photo?

Yes. Drag and drop or upload any image containing a QR code and it is decoded instantly, using the same local scanning engine as the camera mode.

What happens with a Wi-Fi QR code?

The network name and password are extracted and shown separately, along with a one-click copy for the password — handy for typing it into a device that cannot scan the code itself.

Is the scanned content uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding happens entirely on your device using the camera feed or the image file you provide. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why does the camera say permission denied?

Your browser blocked camera access for this site, either because you previously declined it or because the page is not loaded over HTTPS. Check your browser's site permissions, or use the image upload option instead.
