About This Tool
A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data — a URL, text, contact details, Wi-Fi credentials, and more — in a pattern that any smartphone camera can scan instantly.
This tool supports the standard encodings that phones recognize automatically: mailto: for email, tel: for phone numbers, SMSTO: for text messages, and WIFI: for network credentials — so scanning a Wi-Fi QR code can join the network directly without typing a password.
Error correction controls how much of the code can be damaged, dirty, or covered (e.g. by a logo) while still scanning correctly — from 7% (Low) up to 30% (High). Higher levels store the same data in a slightly denser code.
Everything happens locally in your browser — nothing you type is ever uploaded or sent to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I encode into a QR code?
This tool supports plain text and URLs, email addresses (with optional subject and body), phone numbers, SMS messages, and Wi-Fi network credentials. Each is encoded using the standard format that phones recognize automatically when scanning.
What does the error correction level do?
Error correction lets a QR code still scan correctly even if part of it is damaged, dirty, or covered by a logo. Low (L) fits the most data with the least redundancy; High (H) can survive up to 30% damage but stores less data per size.
Will the QR code still scan if I change the colors?
Yes, as long as there is strong contrast between the foreground and background colors. Avoid similar or low-contrast colors (e.g. light gray on white) — most scanners struggle if the contrast ratio is too low.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser — nothing you type is ever sent anywhere.
What is the difference between PNG and SVG downloads?
PNG is a fixed-resolution image, good for most uses. SVG is a vector format that scales to any size without losing quality — better for print or large displays.

How to create a QR code for a link, contact action or Wi-Fi network
This generator turns six kinds of content into a QR code you can download or copy: a web address, plain text, an email, a phone number, a pre-filled SMS and Wi-Fi network details. You choose a tab, fill in the fields and the code redraws immediately, with no Generate button.
The codes are static. What you type is encoded straight into the pattern, with no short link, no expiry and no scan counter, so a code works as long as its destination does and cannot be edited afterwards. Check the content before printing a hundred copies.
Step by step
- Choose a tab: URL, Text, Email, Phone, SMS or Wi-Fi. The page opens on URL with https://usetoolify.com already filled in, so replace it with your own address.
- Fill in the fields. Email takes an address plus optional subject and body, SMS a number and optional message, and Wi-Fi a network name (SSID), Security (WPA/WPA2, WEP or None), Password and a Hidden network checkbox.
- Adjust Size (128 to 512 px in steps of 16, default 256), Foreground and Background colours (default black on white) and Error correction (Low 7%, Medium 15%, Quartile 25%, High 30%, default Medium).
- Press Download PNG, Download SVG or Copy Image. Not every browser lets a page copy images, so use a download if nothing happens.
- Scan the preview with a phone, from the distance people will actually use, before you print or share it.
When this is useful
- A table card in a cafe or shop that links to the menu, an Instagram page or a WhatsApp Business chat.
- A guest Wi-Fi card for a home, office or rented flat, so visitors join without typing a long password.
- A business card or flyer that opens a pre-addressed email or starts a phone call.
- A sticker on equipment or packaging that links to a manual or warranty page.
Worked example: A guest Wi-Fi card for a home network
On the Wi-Fi tab you enter network name HomeNet_5G, Security WPA/WPA2, password Sweet#Mango42 and leave Hidden unticked. The text placed in the code is WIFI:T:WPA;S:HomeNet_5G;P:Sweet#Mango42;H:false;; (a semicolon, comma, colon, quote or backslash in the name or password would be escaped with a backslash). At Medium error correction the code is 33 by 33 squares. With the 2-square margin on each side that is 37 across, so at 256 px each square is about 6.9 px. At High the same text needs 41 by 41 squares, about 5.7 px each, and at Low only 29 by 29.
Tips for better results
- Type the full address with https://. The URL tab encodes exactly what you enter, so example.com may be shown by a scanner as plain text rather than a link.
- Keep content short. Less data means fewer, larger squares, which scan more easily.
- Keep a dark foreground on a light background. Pale foregrounds, or a foreground lighter than the background, can fail on some scanners.
- Pick a higher error-correction level only if the code may get scuffed. The cost is a denser pattern.
- Use SVG for print and posters because it scales without blurring, and PNG for web pages and chat apps. Enter phone numbers without spaces and with the country code, such as +91.
Common mistakes
- Printing before testing. A mistyped address is baked into the pattern for good, so scan the preview and open the result first.
- Forgetting that a Wi-Fi code contains the password in plain text. Anyone with the image can read it by scanning. Use it for guest networks and make a new code when you change the password.
- Choosing poor colours. Light grey on white, or very similar colours, will not scan reliably. There is no contrast warning, so check by scanning.
- Packing in too much text. If a red message says the data is too big, shorten it and do not download until it clears, as the preview may still show the previous code.
- Using spaces in an email subject or body. They are encoded as plus signs, which some mail apps show literally. Keep them short and test on a real phone.
Your files and privacy
The code is drawn in your browser by a QR library delivered with the page, so the address, Wi-Fi password, email or number you enter is not sent to a server while generating, downloading or copying. Opening the page sends a usage note with the tool name and a random anonymous visitor ID, never your content. Anyone who scans or receives the image can read what it contains.
Frequently asked questions
What does error correction do, and which level should I pick?
It adds redundancy so a code still scans when part of it is dirty or scratched. Low tolerates about 7% damage and High about 30%. Medium suits screens and clean prints, while Quartile or High suit stickers that will wear.
Can I track scans or edit the code later?
No. These are static codes with no redirect, so there are no scan statistics, and changing the destination means making and replacing the code.
Why will my QR code not scan?
Usual causes are low contrast, a code printed too small for the viewing distance, too much data making it dense, glare, or a mistake in the content. Try a larger size, higher contrast and shorter text.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
PNG is a fixed-size picture at about the pixel size you chose. SVG is vector artwork that stays sharp at any size, which suits posters and print. Enlarging a PNG makes the squares blurry.
Will the Wi-Fi code work on every phone, and how much data fits?
Most current phone cameras understand the WIFI: format and offer to join, but test on your own devices, especially if your router uses a newer security mode than the options offered. The largest QR size holds about 2,950 bytes of text at Low and about 1,270 at High, and the tool shows an error beyond that.
