About This Free Rent Receipt Generator
useToolify's free rent receipt generator helps tenants create clean, print-ready rent receipts to claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption — no software install, no subscription, and no sign-up required. Everything runs securely inside your browser.
Instead of asking your landlord to sign a receipt every single month, set a date range once and the tool generates one receipt per month automatically — a full financial year (April to March) becomes 12 ready-to-print pages in one PDF.
Each receipt includes the landlord's name, address, and PAN, the tenant's name, the rented property address, the amount in words, the payment mode, and a revenue stamp reminder — required under the Indian Stamp Act whenever a cash payment exceeds ₹5,000.
Your data is saved as a draft in your browser's local storage when you click Save Draft or Download PDF, so you can close the tab and return later without losing your work. When you're ready, click Download PDF to generate print-quality receipts you can hand to your employer or keep for tax filing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a rent receipt required for HRA exemption?
Yes. If you receive House Rent Allowance and want to claim tax exemption on it, your employer typically requires a signed rent receipt from your landlord for each month, or at least a receipt per quarter.
Do I need a revenue stamp on my rent receipt?
Under the Indian Stamp Act, a revenue stamp must be affixed when the payment is made in cash and exceeds ₹5,000. This tool automatically flags when that applies based on your payment mode and amount.
Can I generate receipts for the whole year at once?
Yes. Set a "Period From" and "Period To" month in the Rent tab and a receipt is generated for every month in that range — download them all together as a single PDF, one receipt per page.
Do I need my landlord's PAN on the receipt?
It's mandatory to report your landlord's PAN to your employer if your annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000. Add it in the Landlord tab if it applies to you.
Is my data stored on any server?
No. All your data stays in your browser's local storage. The details you enter are not sent to any server, so your rental information stays completely private.

Guide
How to create monthly rent receipts for a rent record or HRA claim
Many salaried tenants are asked by their employer for rent receipts each year, usually when declaring House Rent Allowance. This generator lets you fill in the landlord, tenant and rent details once and then produces a separate receipt for every month in a date range you choose, each on its own A4 page with its own sequential receipt number, the amount in words, the payment mode and a space for the landlord's signature.
The tool is meant for recording rent that was genuinely paid to a real landlord. Do not make receipts for months you did not pay or for a landlord who does not exist; false claims can attract penalties. Tax treatment also changes over time and depends on which tax regime you are in. As a widely stated rule, HRA exemption is available only under the old tax regime, and employers usually ask for the landlord's PAN when yearly rent exceeds 1,00,000. Please confirm what your employer and a tax professional require before relying on any receipt. Nothing here is tax advice.
Step by step
- Open the Landlord tab and enter the landlord's name, address and, if required, PAN. A note beside the PAN field reminds you it is mandatory to report once annual rent passes 1,00,000.
- Open the Tenant tab and add the tenant's name and the address of the rented property.
- In the Rent tab set Monthly Rent, Currency (INR by default), Payment Mode (Cash, Cheque, Bank Transfer, UPI or Online), the Period From and Period To months, and the day of month rent was paid (1 to 28).
- Check the line that says how many receipts will be created. One receipt is produced for each month in the range, up to 36.
- In Settings, adjust the receipt prefix and starting number, edit the declaration text, upload a scanned signature if the landlord has provided one, and choose a colour for the receipt.
- Review the A4 preview, then click Download PDF. The tool opens your browser's print dialog, where you choose Save as PDF or print.
When this is useful
- Preparing twelve months of receipts at the end of the financial year for the employer's proof-of-investment window.
- Keeping a tidy record of rent paid by bank transfer, with a matching receipt for each month.
- A landlord who wants to issue consistent, numbered receipts to a tenant without hand-writing them.
- Tenants outside India who need a plain rent receipt, since eight currencies are supported.
Worked example: Twelve receipts for 18,000 a month
Priya rents a flat from Mr Gupta for 18,000 a month paid by bank transfer on the 5th. She sets Period From to April 2026 and Period To to March 2027, with prefix RR and starting number 1. The tool reports 12 receipts, numbered RR-001 to RR-012, each stating Eighteen Thousand Rupees Only, with a total of 2,16,000 across the year. Because that is above 1,00,000 a year, she adds the landlord's PAN. Since the payment mode is Bank Transfer, no revenue stamp warning appears. Had she picked Cash, every receipt would show a stamp box and the Rent tab would display a warning.
Tips for better results
- Use Bank Transfer or UPI where possible; it gives you a bank statement entry that matches each receipt.
- Have the landlord actually sign. The tool can add an uploaded signature image, but only use one the landlord has given you permission to use.
- Save Draft stores your entries in the browser so next year's set takes a minute to prepare.
- Check the property address and spelling of names on the preview; they print on every page.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the PAN blank when yearly rent crosses 1,00,000. Ask the landlord for it, or ask your employer what to do if the landlord has none.
- Choosing Cash for a high rent by habit. The tool shows a revenue stamp reminder for cash amounts over 5,000; whether a stamp is needed and in what form can depend on current law and your state, so check locally.
- Generating a full year in advance for months not yet paid. Create receipts only for rent that has been paid.
- Using a date range that does not match the rent agreement, which creates receipts for months you did not rent the property.
- Forgetting that the revenue stamp placeholder on the printout is only a marked box; a real stamp, if needed, must be affixed and signed over by the landlord.
Your files and privacy
Receipts are built in your browser. When you press Save Draft or Download PDF, your entries (including any uploaded signature image) are stored in this browser's local storage so you can return later; clear them with the Clear button. Nothing from the form is uploaded. Share on WhatsApp opens WhatsApp with a short text summary only when you click it, and the page records an anonymous usage event when opened.
Frequently asked questions
Is a rent receipt compulsory for HRA?
Employers commonly ask for receipts or other proof of rent when you declare HRA, though the exact documents vary by employer. Because HRA exemption is generally available only if you are on the old tax regime, confirm with your employer which proofs they need.
When do I need the landlord's PAN?
The widely followed rule is that if the rent you pay in a year exceeds 1,00,000, you give your employer the landlord's PAN, or a declaration if the landlord has none. Confirm the current requirement with your employer or a tax professional.
Does a cash receipt need a revenue stamp?
The tool flags cash payments above 5,000 with a revenue stamp reminder, reflecting the long-standing stamp duty rule on receipts. Stamp rules can differ by state and have been amended over time, so check current local rules or ask your landlord.
How many months can I generate at once?
The tool creates a receipt for each calendar month between Period From and Period To, with a limit of 36 months in one batch. Each month is printed on its own page.
Will my employer accept these receipts?
That is up to your employer. The receipt is a document of rent that was paid, with the details commonly requested, but acceptance depends on their policy and on proof such as signed copies and bank statements.
